Pottery Books: Our First One: Pit Fire Workshop Workbook

Here is an update on the Pit Fired Workshop book I have been working on all winter.  I am getting close to having it ready for people to read it and critique it.  One of my biggest jobs now is to organize all the research I’ve done and the 9 years of photos I have.  That may take the longest time, since selecting the right ones will go a long way to illustrating what we do here.

And thank goodness for the spring, so that I can do what my over anxious mind wants me to, take more pics of John while he goes through the whole process

  • treating the pots
  • preparing the pit
  • loading the pit with combustibles
  • adding the pots
  • finishing building the pit
  • setting the whole thing on fire
  • covering the pit
  • the reveal
  • final treatment

So, while it looks pretty organized, I am just now getting all the bits I have been working on all together.  Once that is done and I have a manuscript, I will need people to read it for me and tell me what I need to change or work on.  Let me know if this is something you want to do, and you will get a free copy once we are done.

  1. I love this form of firing, the results being primitive and beautiful. I’d be honored to help you with the manuscript. I do have a background doing some technical writing (how to’s); I feel that this skill could be a help to you.

    Thanks,
